Yay! It’s World Cup time and even people like me who are more inclined to follow games where they throw the football rather than kick it to each other might just watch the odd match as the month progresses.
I’m not sure whether the sporting bonanza is good for trade. On the one hand, with everyone caught up watching a big screen somewhere, furniture shops might feel like the Marie Celeste. On the other hand, it might be the perfect time to attract those who want to escape wall to wall football to do a bit or home refurbishment instead!
As an aside, some of you may have spotted that Wiemann’s name most of their ranges after cities around the world, so I’ve had a look at which ranges might tie in with which teams.
For favourites Germany, there’s not surprisingly quite a few – but how about Rugen, a dark horse in bianco oak and havana finish. In Portugal we’ve got Faro, a solid, reliable number in semi-solid oak. Egypt may not be favourites for the cup but the country has given us one of our most enduring favourite ranges – the wonderful Luxor for that fully fitted look. Bright, white overbed range Almeria represents Spain with flair; while France strikes a pose with VIP range Cannes combining sultry havana with smooth pebble grey.
What about England? Well it has to be Windsor, whose champagne and nocce finish is fit for royalty style wise but one of the people for price! Will any of our choices be winners this summer – who knows? At least, there’s a bottle of champagne from me from any customer who sends in a suitably decked display of any one of these ranges!
